‘Amar Bhashar Cholochhitro’ is one of the conventional activities of Dhaka University Film Society. The language movement of 1952 is an unforgettable episode in our history. The self-sacrifice of the martyrs in the language movement is a unique identity of the Bengalis. For the first time in 2002, in remembrance of the martyrs, Dhaka University Film Society organized a film festival based on films that were made in mother language in order to exhibit recent and classic films. To honor the golden jubilee of the sacrifice of martyrs, this festival was first arranged holding the name ‘Bhasha Andoloner 50 bochor: Cholochhitre Banglar Mukh’. Since 2007, this festival has been organizing as ‘Amar Bhashar Cholochhitro’. Till now, Dhaka University Film Society successfully arranged 16 film festivals on this particular occasion. Last year, ‘Hiralal Sen Padak’ was introduced for the first time. Every year, a Bangladeshi film will be given this award as the best film of the year. In addition to that, a dedicated film society activist will also be honored with lifetime achievement award. Last year, The Hiralal Sen Padak was awarded to Impress Telefilm’s production “Shankhachil” and prominent Film Society activist Mohammed Khasru was honored with lifetime achievement award. The main goal of Amar Bhashar Cholochhitro is to propagate the spirit of the Language Movement from generation to generation.
