Human Rights Short Film Festival

Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) is organizing the “Human Rights Short Film Festival 2018” in association with United Nations, Bangladesh and The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

Film is an extremely powerful medium to address the struggle for human rights and dignity. Films on human rights can promote understanding, raise a voice and create awareness about national, regional and local human rights issues that need to addressed. They can inspire and engage audiences, especially young people, to be human rights defenders. Films can also kick off dialogue on regional and local human rights issues among creative young people and encourage understanding that promoting human rights is not only the job of human rights activists, but that human rights are for everyone. Distribution and screening, notably in the districts of Bangladesh that are underserved, can contribute to a culture of human rights protection and promotion. Organizing a film festival can serve this purpose.

Please read the points outlined below carefully:

1. Theme of the film festival: Finding Bangladesh and South Asia in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 70 years later.

The theme is very broad. We strongly encourage you to read the Declaration and take inspiration from it to write your screenplay and produce your film.
