Refugees are people who had to flee from their own country due to war, conflict or persecution. The persecution and threat to their safety, integrity and lives could be related to their race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership of a particular social group.

The difference between a refugee and a migrant may be determined by the motives and circumstances of their movements. Generally the migrants  choose to move not because of a direct threat of persecution or death, but mainly to improve their lives by finding work, or in some cases for education, family reunion, or other reasons. However, refugees are persons freeing conflict of well-founded fear of persecution. Refugees are people who cannot return to their country of origin for those reasons and as a result, require international protection.
